Unfortunately Cupcakes Couture has now closed…
The internet has some great resources for people with celiac sprue/gluten intolerance such as tips on how to adjust, list of gluten-free products, and restaurants to check out. A great resource that I’ve used to discover some of my gluten-free restaurant finds is Gluten Free Registry (http://www.glutenfreeregistry.com/), where you can search by state and then city. Every so often I also will just do some basic Google searches with “gluten free” and then a city or town name close by to see what pops up. Since my family was up in Delray this last week I did a search recently of “gluten free Delray Beach” and Mellow Mushroom Pizza came up (check out my blog post Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers), as well as Cupcake Couture. I checked out Cupcake Couture’s website and they do make gluten-free cupcakes if you order ahead (they recommended 48 hours in advance).
Since I knew my mom and sister were coming down to Miami for some sightseeing and dinner I mentioned to my mom that Cupcake Couture is on Atlantic Ave. And look what she got me!-
The cupcakes from Cupcake Couture are excellent! My mom got me four flavors- all chocolate cupcakes with chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, and vanilla frosting. The cupcakes themselves were good and had a nice texture- not dry or too crumbly and some good chocolate taste. All the frostings were very rich and delicious and I think made the cupcakes really top notch. From the richness I’d guess they’re all buttercream frostings, but I might have just been watching too much Cupcake Wars. I liked all four but my favorite had to be the vanilla frosting- it had some great contrast with the chocolate cupcake. I like chocolate but usually I prefer chocolate with some other kind of flavor, but I was really happy with the chocolate-chocolate and I always love peanut butter and caramel. I didn’t try all four in one sitting (thankfully I exercised a little bit of self control) but indulged enough to try each flavor over two days. I’m going to try and pace the remainder of the cupcakes out and keep up the tasting pleasure for a bit longer.
Cupcake Couture doesn’t usually have gluten-free cupcakes on hand so you should definitely order in advance. I believe my mom said that they can’t make vanilla cupcakes gluten-free, but double check on that. Check out their website for different flavors and decorations- http://cupcakecoutureusa.com/ and when you call (recommended 48 hours in advance) see which of the flavors they can make gluten-free. They also can do vegan cupcakes! My sister and aunt (who are not gluten-free) really enjoyed their regular cupcakes so I’d highly recommend Cupcake Couture for anyone in the Palm Beach County area, but especially gluten-frees and vegans. Their cupcakes with the rich frosting is definitely high-end cupcake couture!
