Tampa/Sarasota (Gluten-Free)

I unfortunately haven’t spent much time on the Gulf, which is a little silly since it’s so close to Miami. I did head to Sarasota once for work and then visited my aunt in Tampa with my parents when they were in town. The Gulf has some beautiful beaches and calm, warm waters. The different town also has some delicious food and cool sights to see. I need to spend a lot more time in the Gulf, but below are some of the sights and restaurants I came across in my two trips there-

*Special gluten-free options

  • *Columbia Restaurant (Tampa)– historic, Tampa institution with some delicious food. A Cuban restaurant, but found a lot of similarities to a Spanish tapas restaurant as well. Paella is gluten-free!
  • *Island Gluten-Free Bakery (Sarasota)– gluten-free bakery with some decent baked good options and also some more filling lunch options.
  • Jason’s Deli (Sarasota and around the country)– one of my most favorite national chains. Just uses Udi’s bread, but they make a great sandwich with it
  • *Maggiano’s Little Italy (Tampa)– national chain with gluten-free pasta. Post is about my trip in Chicago, but been to the Tampa one. If you get one of the classic pastas with gluten-free noodles, you get an extra serving to go!
  • *Papa Murphy’s (locations across the Gulf Coast)– a national chain of take-n-bake pizzas. Was obsessed with the toppings growing up, so was pretty excited (understatement) when they added a gluten-free crust. Have actually had friends drive me back pizzas from the Gulf when they’ve been on trips!
  • Ringling Museum (Sarasota): one of the Ringling brother’s estate, which is now an art museum, circus museum, and the main villa. The whole place was quite impressive!
